Four doubles with/without private bath and toilet

(BavariaBen) ...I love the Berchtesgaden area and one good reason is the abundance of beautifully situated farms. With so many farms available I always try to be especially choosey and find one with a nice balcony and view. I thought I had the perfect place during the 2003 trip and had a reservation for a nice apartment confirmed for the two nights we were to be there. Until just before we left for Germany - when I got an email from the owner saying she had made a mistake with the booking and therefore did not have rooms for us. But she would recommend a friend who owned a Gasthaus in the area. I was looking forward to a farm and not a Gasthaus so I decided that once we got to Berchtestgaden we would stop at the TI office across from the Bahnhof and use their free phones to find a good local farm. The Berchtesgaden Tourist Information office has a great catalog of local accommodations (including farms) and we always stop and get a new one when in town. I had a list of farms that we had drawn up prior to the trip that offered the views and ambiance that we were looking for. Surprisingly, we couldn't find an apartment or two rooms available anywhere and exhausted the list fairly quickly. We seemed to be running out of possibilities when we tried this farm just north of the Maria Gern chapel.

And what a lucky find the Unterklapflehen turned out to be. The hostess Frau Hasenknopf was a delightful young lady with beautiful children and she also spoke some English.

This farm sits just below the Untersberg not far from another nice farm I stayed a few years ago (The Steinbichllehen). We were shown to two nice doublerooms with balcony, with a very large bath, shower, toilet and a separate toilet just across the hallway.

The going price was 36 Euro for the doubleroom if occupied by two persons. We agreed to a price of 25 Euro per room per night - a bargain at twice that price.

Sandwiched between the two rooms is a charming little Frühstückzimmer and Aufenthaltesraum.

The views from each room's balcony were super.

A short walk down the road will take you to the Gaststätte-Cafe Bachgütl. Although we didn't eat here on this trip I have eaten there several times in the past and the food was always very good. Excellent Schnitzel! Just a short distance below the Bachgütl is the famous chapel at Maria Gern.

I highly recommend this farm to anyone staying in the Berchtesgaden area...
